Equivicae asked:
This is a video cut from “Trick of The Mind” series aired in the UK. The clip here is taken directly from Season 1 — Episode 1. This is one of my favorite segments done by Derren. It explains for the most part how he did achieve the feat, and the trick is quite clever. Don’t get too hung up on the ending though; it’s merely a trick. I’ve got all of Derren’s work on my computer, and if you’re interested in somehow obtaining the information, email me at tranceriver@gmail.com and we’ll talk …

yeah! wonderfull
” I can’t remember” ***…
Beast
lol why didn’t I think of that!
does this one have to do with his memory?
this video has nothing to do with nlp
I don’t think you know who Derren Brown is. He’s a master at NLP, and if you know what that is, then you would relize this is very real.
i love this guy
No, you don’t seem to get it
as my other posts show, the chess players knew about the trick
they went along with it because it is good publicity for chess and they wanted to be on television
but it was portrayed like they had no idea what was up
that is “reality” television for you
yes he has a great memory. Graham Lee said the chess players were very impressed by that. but no one was fooled by the set up. like i said, it is an old stunt in the chess world
genius
it takes skill to remember all those moves, and derren brown has that skill
This is fucking great!
No, you obviously dont get it.
so to sum up, it is a television show and the real trick is being played on the viewer.
who knows what else gets edited out to make the show better entertainment
Graham Lee also said the letter thing was just a sleight of hand trick. no actual prediction happened
Derren used misdirection and hand speed to replace the letter when Graham was getting ready to unfold it
all Derren needed was somebody off camera to write the numbers once Derren had the right ones. because the show is heavily edited they had all the time to do this
okay now i have found a message board post by Graham Lee, talking about this
he said the players all realized it was the mirror set-up
they went along with it because it was good publicity for chess and they wanted to be on television
okay i have found a post on a chess blog. Chris Ward visited a chess club and they asked him about this
he said all the players realized it was the “mirror” set-up. they suspected as much all along. the show producers promised them it wouldn’t be… but it was
of course it is not good television to have the chess players say that
mansur12, you are right. it is fake
i remember a Derren Brown interview where he basically admits his television shows are just that… shows.
they are not documentaries about real people being really tricked.
they are about fooling the viewer into thinking they are seeing people being tricked
the trick is on the viewer, not on the chess players. the chess players are playing along
the idea behind this set-up is an old stunt in the chess world. anyone with a serious interest in chess has heard a variation of it.
Chris Ward is a chess historian and has written loads of books on chess. there is NO WAY he did not realize what was going on.
in fact any serious chess player would become suspicious the moment Derren left the first table without making a move
the “victims” are in on it
Not sure what you mean; but he asks them to count :0
Did you see the counting cards video
No joke he could live his life as a player!
:D
fake.
but, how did he figure out the remaining pieces left on the board on every player, is the real question.
Brilliant! This guy could make a living counting cards in Vegas. ha ha
